Since we first featured Othram in 2020, the forensic technology company has rapidly expanded its capabilities and reach, helping solve some of the most difficult cold cases across the United States. Now operating out of its new & expanded headquarters at 2829 Technology Forest Blvd – our Class-A property in The Woodlands, Texas, Othram continues to lead the field in forensic genetic genealogy with unmatched success.
Othram, the leading provider of accredited forensic genomic services, has helped law enforcement investigators solve more cases using forensic genetic genealogy than any other organization.
At the core of Othram’s success is the integration of proprietary advanced DNA testing technologies, including Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing® (FGGS®), with AI-driven software tools that enhance traditional investigative work. These tools analyze large volumes of genetic data, generate leads faster, and streamline genealogical research. The result is a powerful force multiplier that improves outcomes and shortens timelines in even the most complex cases.
“Our goal is to provide investigators with the most powerful tools to generate answers, no matter how old or complex the case or how degraded the DNA,” said Dr. David Mittelman, Othram CEO. “By combining sequencing technology, genealogical analysis, and AI software into an integrated workflow, we’re making it possible to solve more cases, more efficiently, and with greater precision.”
The Carla Walker Act: A Federal Push to Expand Forensic Genetic Genealogy
Following the passage of the Carla Walker Act in early 2025, U.S. Senator John Cornyn visited Othram’s headquarters in The Woodlands to spotlight the lab’s pivotal role in modern forensic investigations. Named after Carla Walker—whose 1974 cold case was solved in 2020 using Othram’s technology—the bipartisan legislation allocates $5 million annually to support pilot programs for forensic genome sequencing. The act also mandates transparent reporting of DNA case outcomes and aims to give more law enforcement agencies access to cutting-edge forensic genetic genealogy tools.
With over 500 public case announcements, Othram works with law enforcement agencies in nearly every U.S. state. The company also partners with federal agencies, tribal communities, and international organizations to ensure access to the most effective forensic tools available.
